A slice of dried orange is slipped into the three-citrus mulled wine. These are sold at a rather salty price in supermarkets, so if you have time, you should prepare the slices yourself.

The fastest way to do this is in a vegetable dehydrator, but you can also use the oven.

1. Cut the fruit into thin slices and put the slices on a baking sheet on baking paper in a convection oven at 65 degrees.

2. When the fruit has dried out a little, i.e. no more liquid drips from it, move the slices onto a wire rack.

3. Depending on their juiciness, the oranges dry in the oven in about four hours. Low heat preserves the fresh tone of the fruit.

You can dry, for example, citrus fruits, pears, apples and pineapple rings in this way.
