Three brothers develop mine clearance robot for Ukraine in Buda::lab

Together with the team of volunteers, we worked intensively on hardware and electronics development for almost a year. A first prototype has now left for Kiev for further software development. The goal is to produce the machine on a large scale in a factory in Ukraine and to get to work as quickly as possible to defuse the many anti-personnel mines that are currently in use.

Public workplace

BUDA::lab is a public workshop with a wide range of analog and digital machines that allow creative people, designers, makers, children, students and schools to get creative. Stan Dewaele, coordinator BUDA::lab: “Such a project demonstrates the value of a makerspace in a maximum way. There are also many people active in BUDA::lab, each with their own expertise. If this knowledge is bundled and shared, as in this project, you will achieve a very impactful result that all parties are rightly very proud of.”

Ruth Vandenberghe, mayor: “Experimenting, creating, innovating,… what happens in BUDA::lab is what Kortrijk stands for. We are therefore very proud that we helped realize the idea of the three Vancraen brothers. Hopefully, as a small Belgian city, we will contribute to making the enormous Ukraine a mine-free and safe country again. Big thanks to the volunteers from BUDA::lab and the Kortrijk schools for participating in this.”
