Three 15-year-olds arrested for extortion with firearms

In the night of 20 to 21 May, two victims were approached by a young person around 00:45 in the de Smet de Naeyerlaan. He asked them the way to the station, but suddenly two other young people showed up. One of the suspects threatened the victims with a handgun. They demanded that the victims hand over their money, which eventually happened.

Barely fifteen minutes later, the same young people would have struck again. A woman was cycling home when she was suddenly approached by two suspects in Waterkasteelstraat. Again one of them carried a gun in his hand. He ordered her to stop, but the victim refused.

The two facts were quickly linked by the police. Thanks to intensive detective work, three suspects were identified and apprehended after a few days. The 15-year-old East Flemish people were placed at the disposal of a juvenile judge in East Flanders.
