Thousands of Volvos can suddenly run amok or come to a complete standstill | Car

According to the Belgian website Auto55 Disturbed signals can cause unwanted acceleration due to water ingress. Corrosion can disrupt accelerator pedal signals. As a result, in some cases the car does not want to start or it can almost come to a standstill while driving. However, it can also cause the car to accelerate without the driver’s will.

According to Volvo, however, the affected vehicles have a ‘built-in safety function’. This would ensure that when receiving disturbed signals, the acceleration decreases, so that the vehicle is still steerable. Volvo reportedly discovered the problems recently after several customers complained about problems with the accelerator pedal.

Volvo Netherlands has not yet informed the owners of the Volvo’s XC40. “At the moment, Volvo Car Netherlands is making final preparations with regard to communication and logistics in order to serve customers, together with the dealers, as quickly as possible,” says a Dutch spokesperson for Volvo.
