Thousands of new damage claims storm arrive at insurers | Financial

Insurer Nationale-Nederlanden and its brands Ohra, ABN Amro Verzekeringen, ING Verzekeren and SNS Verzekeren also report more than 100 claims to their business customers, the insurers said in an interim claim report. “This will increase in the coming days,” they say.

They have not yet mentioned an amount of damage.

If requested, the Dutch Association of Insurers says it can provide the first total amount of that damage for the Netherlands on Monday morning.

Busy glaziers

Insurers, glaziers, plumbers and roofing companies say they experience peak traffic everywhere due to the large number of requests for emergency assistance for damage. Police, hospitals and fire brigade were already working overtime, just like the emergency service of the ANWB.

That help for damage to cars and homes of private individuals and buildings and stored goods at companies sometimes only comes a few days later due to a lack of staff and the enormous volume of telephones. “Despite the maximum deployed capacity and personnel, this can lead to waiting times,” the insurers said on Saturday.

Insurers advise companies and private individuals to take ‘clear photos’ and send them along with the damage reports.

Significant damage

Centraal Beheer announced on Friday evening that about 2500 damage reports had already been received since Wednesday, a spokeswoman said on Saturday morning.

Until Saturday, most reports came from the coastal provinces of North and South Holland and Friesland, where the wind gusts got the highest speed.

All storm damage above wind force 7 is covered according to the insurers.
