Thousands of garbage trucks from Rotterdam are temporarily dumping waste in Tilburg

Household waste from the west of the country will be stored at the garbage dump on Vloeiveldweg in Tilburg in the near future. This is necessary after a major fire at a waste processor in Rotterdam. The waste is temporarily stored for a period of four weeks, during which 60,000 tons of waste will be brought to Tilburg from the west of the country.

This means that during that period thousands of garbage trucks drive from the Randstad to Brabant to store the waste in Tilburg. After the four weeks, the waste is removed again in Tilburg to be processed elsewhere.

The enormous fire at the waste processor in Rotterdam started last Thursday and was not under control a day later. A spokesperson for that company already told the newspaper NOS know that temporarily storing waste at other locations was one of the options.

‘Solidarity with the Randstad’
Normally, thousands of kilos of waste from Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam are burned at the oven in Rotterdam. The decision to help Rotterdam out comes from the province of North Brabant. “As Brabant, we feel solidarity with the Randstad,” says provincial administrator Saskia Boelema. “With this decision we ensure that cities in the west of the country remain clean.”

Dirt from all over Brabant
Household waste from all over Brabant is stored at the Tilburg garbage dump, which is located in the north of the municipality. Because a waste incinerator is being renovated in Moerdijk, an additional 30,000 tons have already been processed in Tilburg.
