The fire brigade has been turned out with large equipment. Firefighters from Biddinghuizen, Dronten and Elburg have been called. Firefighters are trying to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent barn. The fire brigade could not immediately say how many chickens are involved.
There is a lot of smoke development. Asbestos was also released that was in the roof of the barn, but according to the fire service, it landed in and around the barn. “The smoke is blowing over the country and not over a residential area. Fortunately, because there is quite a strong wind,” said a spokesman for the fire brigade. People in the area who are affected by the smoke are advised to close windows and doors.
A drone team is also on the way. “They can measure the smoke development and also detect any remaining heat sources when most of the extinguishing work has been done.”
The fire service has not yet said how the fire started.
