Those who became unemployed due to corona in 2022 will not lose any vacation days or part of their holiday allowance Work

Employees who fell under the corona unemployment system in the first semester of 2022 will not lose any vacation days or part of their vacation pay. This is announced by Minister of Work Pierre-Yves Dermagne.

In the first half of 2022, companies could still rely on that system of corona unemployment. But those days of unemployment did not count as an equivalent period for the right to holiday, unlike in 2020 and 2021.

Consequence: the days of corona unemployment in 2022 do not count for the calculation of the number of vacation days and vacation pay for this year. The ACV calculated that as a result, more than 300,000 employees will lose holiday money and vacation days this year. The ABVV even speaks of 400,000 employees.

“Hopefully everything is finally settled now”

To help employers and payout funds, the government also decided that the social and fiscal income associated with this assimilation will be refunded to them. “They do not cover the full cost, but solutions are being studied to deal with the budgetary problem in the medium term,” explains Minister Dermagne’s cabinet.

The Christian trade union ACV responds with satisfaction. “We now hope that everything has now been definitively arranged for blue-collar workers and white-collar workers,” said national secretary Koen Meesters.
