THOS forgets to hurt MOVV

MOVV is still undefeated in the fourth division after seven matches. Opponent THOS had chance after chance and was certainly the better team after the break, but the Beertsters failed to get away with at least a point: 2-1.

Despite the heavy rain in recent days, the field in Midwolda was easy to play on. “I was here at nine o’clock this morning to take a look,” said MOVV board member Klaas Drewel.

“The drainage works excellently. The field is just a bit bumpy. You always get questions about why it is going ahead, but I don’t know why it should be canceled. Moreover, they always forget that you have to catch up on the game later.”

Fortunately for the home team, the match was played as normal and three points could be added to the total. However, that was certainly not easy. The fact that MOVV left the field as the winner certainly also had to do with THOS missing the best opportunities.

In the first half, two hundred percent chances were not lost on Martijn Zuur, while after the break the substitute and completely detached Jeroen Meendering placed two headers wide of MOVV keeper Mark Mulder’s goal.

‘We are empty-handed’

Fifteen minutes before the end, Mulder had no chance against a shot from Danny Jager, who delivered a devastating shot from more than twenty meters. “I hit that ball well. But yeah, you don’t get anything out of it. Because we are empty-handed, even though we were the better team after the break and we had plenty of chances.”

While THOS finished second last season, things are not really going well this year. Jager: “And yet we are always the better team, it’s just frustrating that we don’t yield enough. While MOVV handled their chances very efficiently in the first half, we did not.”

‘No one gets through from below’

In addition, THOS trainer Bob Mulder has to work with a narrow selection. “We have a small group and if a few people are missing, it will be difficult for us to accommodate that. No one gets through from below,” says Jager.

MOVV coach Dick Scholtens has more substitution options. He had to use two of them before the break. Berend Perdok soon left with an ankle injury, while Kevin Wiegman had to be replaced shortly before the half-time signal.

MOVV certainly found it difficult to cope with the loss of Wiegman after the break. While Wiegman kept it simple in the first half and played the ball to a player with the same shirt, things were different after the break.

Long ‘pear’ forward

The team from Midwolda lacked peace. There was often a run with the ball or a long ‘peer’ followed forward. Top scorer Jordi Blaauw became increasingly annoyed and, apart from his goal, did not appear in the game.

THOS insisted and took more and more risks. But despite the fact that the home team almost never left its own penalty area, it held its ground and will start the upcoming top matches against Siddeburen and Heiligerlee as the leader.
