Coach Thomas Tuchel from FC Bayern remains calm in the face of Uli Hoeneß’s public taunts and has revealed a meeting with the honorary president.
“I noticed that, and what was made of it, and listened carefully to what he said. Everything is good with Uli. We met yesterday,” said Tuchel on Saturday on the sidelines of the Bundesliga game at FSV Mainz 05 (3: 1) on the “Sky” microphone.
“I also know what he meant, I often speak to him directly on Säbener Strasse. That matters more to me than what was made of it. Everyone can judge that, I’m not adding fuel to the fire. We have “Some injured people, but still a team on the pitch that can win,” added the head coach of the German record champions,
Hoeneß had previously interviewed Tuchel RTL/ntv and sport.de criticized for his statements about FC Bayern’s transfer policy.
“I’m not making my own team look bad by saying we’re too thin, we’re this, we’re that. If you see what we have on the bench every weekend, only international players, then we don’t have a thin one Squad,” said the long-time Munich manager and president.
“Powder keg” at FC Bayern?
Tuchel’s statements were “unwise” and a “fed up for the media, especially the tabloids,” were Hoeneß’ further accusations directed at the trainer. In this context, “Sport Bild” wrote about a “powder keg” on Säbener Strasse.
Tuchel had already commented on the speculation at the press conference on Friday. He has a “very open, direct, honest and appreciative relationship with Hoeneß. Nothing has changed. Even if Football Germany was interested in his statements.”
In the summer, Tuchel vehemently wanted reinforcements for the defensive midfield, both publicly and in internal discussions. Hoeneß is said to have been annoyed by the 50-year-old’s demands.
