Thomas Müller was self-critical in view of the dismissal of coach Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern.
“The change came as a surprise to me too. As captain and part of the team council, I often exchange views with the coach and try to help steer everything in the right direction. So if the club decides to change coaches, then you also clearly have to sweep your own front door. Achievements that don’t meet our standards are of course always down to us as a team,” wrote the 2014 world champion in his email newsletter.
Müller added: “At this point, a big thank you again to Julian Nagelsmann and his coaching team. Thank you for the intensive work together over the last almost two years with many great moments on and off the pitch. I’m sure we will see Julian on the football stage again soon.”
FC Bayern separated from Nagelsmann at the end of last week. His successor was Thomas Tuchel, who scored an exclamation mark on his debut in the top game against Borussia Dortmund (4:2).
BVB duel “the most important game” for FC Bayern
The duel with BVB was “the most important game for the soul of Bayern,” said Müller. Because: “In the last few weeks there has been too much ups and downs for our taste. Of course, every game always has its own story, but our performances and the results in the Bundesliga were not consistently Bayern-like.”
“All the better” was the convincing victory in the top game, explained Müller. “Overall, we can be satisfied with the new coaching staff in the first week. Most of our players were out due to the international break, so there was little time for everyone involved to prepare. But I had the feeling that we worked very focused and we did were able to respond fairly well to what the coach asked of us.”
