The Tesla Model 3 is the most registered car in Europe in March. This is evident from data from data supplier Jato, based on registration figures from 27 European markets. Also in third place is a Tesla: Model Y.
Tesla is doing well in Europe when it comes to leading sales. It is all the more striking that Elon Musk’s brand is only eighteenth in the ranking of best-selling brands. The Peugeot 208 is in second place in the list of best-selling cars of March, the website reports Autoevolution.com†
2.73 million cars in total
In total, 2.73 million cars were sold in the first three months of this year. That represents a 19 percent decline from 2021 sales and an 11 percent decline from the first quarter of last year. This is mainly due to the aftermath of corona and the shortage of chips and wiring harnesses. Gasoline cars were the most popular in the first quarter last year, with a stable market share of 57 percent. Diesels are again the big losers with a drop from 24 to 16 percent.
Profit on used Tesla
The number of plug-in hybrids and electric cars sold grew from 16 to 22 percent. So a large part of it consists of Teslas. The brand is popular worldwide, mainly due to rising gasoline prices. Tesla is also doing very well second-hand. According to the American site Inside EVs owners of a Tesla a few years old can get between $6,000 and $10,000 more for their car than they paid new for it.
