When designing a UI/UX project, professionals must create fake user profiles or personas to provide a more authentic rendering. There are indeed free tools to generate avatars and names to use for prototypes. Among them, Random Users.
An avatar and a name generated in one click
Random Users is a totally free tool. It is accessible from any web browser. To obtain a user profile, nothing could be simpler. On the home page, you have to select a few criteria. The tool first offers to choose whether you want a man or a woman. This allows to filter the proposed photos and names. The rest of the elements relate to the aesthetics of the avatar.
Thanks to AI, this tool allows you to create neat social media posts
Indeed, two shapes are available for rendering: square or round. It is available in color, but it is however possible to add a black and white or sepia filter on it. To do this, just click on one of the following three small icons: the face without a mouth, the fish or the color palette. Note that the more you press the sepia filter, the more the effect is reinforced and the contrast is intensified. However, the filter functionalities are currently only available on the desktop version.
Changes are made in real time and are visible below the tool buttons. Once all the preferences have been filled in, it is necessary to choose among the avatars and names offered. The image can be downloaded using a simple right click. For the name, just click on it for it to be copied to the clipboard. The elements can then be used in a project or for a prototype.
It is necessary to click again on “Male” or “Female” to have other proposals. In case you don’t want to use a person’s face, Random Users also offers avatars made of pixels. The tool generates as many as you want, as long as you press the “Generate” button. Again, square and round shapes are available.
