It is one of the largest shopping centers in our region. 6.2 million visitors shop in Kaufpark Eiche on the north-eastern outskirts of Berlin every year. Soon 440 apartments will also be on offer here.
Curious: The accommodations are parked over the parking lot in front of the shopping center, so to speak. “We want to use 17,000 square meters of the parking area for apartments,” says Michael Maas from the Maas & Partner architects’ office to BZ.
The concrete plans: Part of the large car park area will be covered, followed by a green area on which 15 buildings with 28,000 square meters of living space will be built. Maas: “We are considering different building shapes with different facades and heights.”
The apartments should be a maximum of 100 square meters – all for rent. A medical center, a day care center and an 800 square meter playground are also planned. “Because we’re building upwards, we don’t have to seal a square meter of land and at the same time create a lot of urban quality,” says architect Maas.

The plans have met with great interest in the Brandenburg municipality. The local council has unanimously approved the plan. The responsible building committee chairman Jörg Dreger (SPD) also spoke of an “interesting thing”. Even in the BVV Marzahn-Hellersdorf – Eiche borders directly on the district – the curious plans were already an issue.
According to architect Maas, the ground-breaking ceremony should take place at the end of next year. Planned completion of the residential area: 2025.
