Ukrainian fencers attempted to display an anti-war poster at a competition in Nanjing, China last Sunday. Chinese authorities blocked the plan.

Vlada Kharkiv, one of the Ukrainian fencers who participated in the event, filmed the incident on video. The clip is now spreading on social media.

The fencers wanted to show a poster at the event of the International Fencing Federation, which tells how many athletes have already died in the war of aggression started by Russia.

– The organizer and the International Fencing Federation (FIE) didn’t let us do it, Harkova wrote on the side of the video.

It was apparently a protest from the Ukrainians, as earlier this month the International Fencing Federation welcomed athletes from Russia and Belarus back to its games, despite the Ukrainian Fencing Federation having tried in every way to prevent this.

– Russia violates all Olympic values. FIE tries to hide the truth with threats, restrictions and silencing us. How does this differ from Russia’s political strategy? Harkova continued.

Harkova, 26, won EC gold in fencing last year on an individual level and bronze in the team competition.
