This is why there are orange hands on the streets (and it’s not for the World Cup)

In the center we see orange hands and the text ‘Stop violence against women’ in various places on the street. These images are not there because the Dutch national team will play football against Ecuador on Friday. Why then? That’s what we’re going to tell you.

Friday 25 November is ‘Orange the world day’, the International Day against Violence against Women. Action will be taken against this social problem until 10 December.

In Zoetermeer, the orange hands of chalk paint around the Dobbeplas make people alert to this day. The maker of the orange hands (the symbol of this day) is Soroptimistclub Zoetermeer eo THE symbols form two walking routes in the center of the city: one through the Stadshart and one past restaurant Bo&Ro. Both routes start at the Stadstheater and end at art garage Franx.

Walking and writing

On November 25 at 10:00 am, the Franx writing club, led by Jannie van Maldegem of Writing Adventures, will follow this orange hands route with as many writers as possible and along the way reflect on and write about the theme. At Franx, the coffee and tea with some goodies are ready. Participate in this
writing walk is free, you can sign up via [email protected]. Gather at the Kinepolis cinema, East 70.

Orange for a new day

The color orange represents a new day. One in which we work towards a world without violence against women. Globally, one in three women experience violence. In the Netherlands, this is even 45 percent of women and girls. To draw attention to this, the Orange the World campaign was set up by the United Nations.

We found out much more for you…
