Old, rusty and dangerous: Residents in Zehlendorf must be prepared for inconveniences on Monday because of an aging World War II bomb. To defuse the almost 80-year-old dud, a 500-meter exclusion circle is drawn around the site. Everyone has to go!

The German 500-kilo bomb with a Russian detonator was discovered on Friday during road construction work on Berlepschstrasse/Dallwitzstrasse. On Monday, explosives experts from the explosive ordnance clearance service are to deactivate the dangerous contaminated site.

Apartments, houses, offices and shops in the restricted area should be cleared by 8 a.m. “Officials will be on duty for this from the early morning,” said a police spokesman for the BZ. Several hundreds should secure the defusing and control the eviction.

Bomb disposal in Zehlendorf also affects the S-Bahn and bus

The traffic on the S-Bahn line 1 will also be interrupted, the BVG lines 115, 101 and the 623 Havelbus will be diverted. Parts of the Helios Clinic Emil von Behring on Walterhöferstraße are also affected. The clinic management has announced an orderly evacuation and patient transfers for Monday. The emergency center and the intensive care units are outside the restricted area and do not have to be evacuated. Two schools remain closed, classes have been canceled.
