The suspected perpetrator of the shooting in Ieperlaan in Brussels is 45-year-old Abdesalem Lassoued from Schaarbeek, who is known to have been radicalized. State Secretary for Asylum and Migration Nicole de Moor (CD&V) has now confirmed that he is of Tunisian descent. In 2019, Lassoued applied for asylum in our country, but that application was rejected in 2020. According to the federal prosecutor’s office, he probably had terrorist motives.
