This is what the very last Easter bonfire might look like

Hundreds of people came to the Voorterdijk in Budel on Saturday because of the Easter fire. They enjoyed the fireworks, the food and drink and the performances that took place.

Dozens of volunteers were busy on Saturday with the preparations for the Easter fire. “It may just be the last time”, organizer Rens Cardinaal of Youth Clubs Budel realized at the time. The Easter fires are under fire because they would emit too much nitrogen.

More than with fireworks, for example. “First it was too dry, then there was too much wind and now we have to deal with nitrogen.”

Fire or no fire was really secondary
The Budelse Easter fire was part of a mini festival with tents, a bar and inflatables. It was the fifth time this event took place.

Due to the nitrogen problems, the size of the fire pile on the Voorterdijk in Budel was considerably reduced this year. “We were told our maximum emissions. We went a little further under that, just to be on the safe side,” said volunteer Joost Kuipers.

The organizers were mainly concerned with holding a party for the villagers. Fire or no fire was really secondary.
