This is what the start of the European season looks like for the five Dutch clubs | NOW

At the end of July, AZ will be the first of five Dutch clubs to start their European adventure in the new season. An overview of what awaits the Alkmaarders, but also FC Twente, Feyenoord, PSV and Ajax.

AZ: second preliminary round Conference League

The team of trainer Pascal Jansen got rid of sc Heerenveen and Vitesse in the play-offs of last season and thus obtained the last available European ticket in the Eredivisie.

For AZ, the longest route to one of the main tournaments awaits. The club from Alkmaar will meet SP Tre Penne from San Marino or FK Tuzla City from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the second preliminary round. If the diptych with the San Marines or Bosnia and Herzegovinars is passed, the third preliminary round and the play-offs still have to be survived for a place in the group stage.

Second heat draw: June 15
Dates for second qualifying round: July 21 and 28

FC Twente: third preliminary round Conference League

FC Twente will enter in the third preliminary round anyway. Thanks to the strong season – they finished fourth – the Enschede team are again active in Europe for the first time in eight years.

If AZ survive the diptych with SP Tre Penne or FK Tuzla City, a meeting between the two Dutch clubs is out of the question. Teams from the same country can only meet from the quarter-finals of the main tournament.

Third qualifying round dates: August 4 and 11

Feyenoord: Europa League group stage

As number three of last season, Feyenoord initially obtained a starting ticket for the Europa League play-offs, but secured a place in the main schedule thanks to reaching the Conference League final. Opponent AS Roma had already secured participation in the group stage of the Europa League in Serie A.

Group stage play dates: September 8, September 15, October 6, October 13, October 27, November 3

PSV: third qualifying round of the Champions League

Will two Dutch clubs be playing in the Champions League next season? That is possible, but then PSV must survive the third preliminary round and the play-offs. A great challenge for the new trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij. If they are eliminated in either round, a continuation will follow in the main tournament of the Europa League.

Third qualifying round dates: 2/3 and 9 August

Ajax: Champions League group stage

Champion Ajax can report to the group stage of the Champions League for the fifth consecutive season. The team from Amsterdam is in pot 1 in the draw; PSV was the last Dutch club to have protected status in 2015.
