Denmark’s Queen Margareta’s last official occasion as queen was on Monday.

Denmark’s Queen Margareeta, 83, said in her New Year’s speech that she would give up her crown.
Power passes to Margareta’s son, the crown prince to Frederik, 55, January 14. On that day, 52 years have passed since Margareta’s rise to power.
On Monday, Margaree was seen in her last official function as queen. He received the list of honorees in front of the audience at Christiansborg Castle.
Denmark has a long tradition, where citizens have the opportunity to meet the monarch in person. The event is held every other Monday and is said to symbolize a combination of royal traditions and modern equality.

The reason for the change of power
Queen Margareeta said that her big decision was born out of the back surgery she had last year.
– I have decided that now is the right time. Time passes and diseases increase. It will no longer be the same as before, Margareeta said in her speech.
– My hope is that the new ruling couple will encounter the same trust and affection that I have received. They deserve it. Denmark deserves it.
