It seems only a matter of time that Ruud van Nistelrooij will become the trainer of PSV 1. De Geffenaar is standing on his own feet for the first time this season, but emphasizes that he already has his own football vision. A short impression of what PSV can expect from the former striker and his examples in the coaching profession.
The first thing that strikes you when you look at Ruud van Nistelrooij’s coaching career is the lack of experience at an Eredivisie club or real first division club. The former striker is in his first year at Jong PSV, before that he was a trainer at lower youth teams of the Eindhoven club.
With youth teams and Young PSV, there is of course a different pressure than with PSV 1. Although Van Nistelrooij himself does not want to know anything about this, the former striker said during an earlier interview at the end of December. “I want to win every game. People sometimes say it’s all about training, but I can be sick of a defeat against De Graafschap or FC Emmen.”
In addition, Van Nistelrooij mainly wants to achieve results with good football. The 45-year-old trainer normally plays 4-3-3 with the point back. That sounds defensive, but in theory there are five attacking players on the field.
In December, the Geffenaar already indicated that he had his own vision. “Of course you have to look at what kind of equipment you have, but I do have an idea of how football should ideally be played. I also get all the freedom in that. I can work in my own way.”
With his own way, Van Nistelrooij has made an internal impression on the policymakers, so that the former striker is now thrown to the lions.
Of course he can fall back on his experience as a top football player in the world top. De Brabander learned a lot from Bobby Robson and Alex Ferguson, among others. “How they dealt with criticism is fascinating. Then there would be another damning piece in the paper and I was afraid they were in sackcloth and ashes. But they came to the club undisturbed and were always happy to talk to us.”
In addition, there were also trainers that he already knew as a football player: I don’t want to learn from this. The trainer did not want to say who those were.
Finally, Ruud van Nistelrooij will be a good signboard for the club. In his first year as responsible for Jong PSV, the former striker cannot be caught making strange statements or crazy antics along the sidelines. In that regard, it seems all-encompassing a logical choice. Of course everything stands and falls with the performance on the field.
