Good friends and good musicians: Neneh Cherry and Robyn, here in London in 2019

In early 1989, 33 years ago, Neneh Cherry’s hit “Buffalo Stance” was released. The single from her album RAW LIKE SUSHI was and is an iconic song between hip-hop, dance and pop, which not only shaped Cherry’s career, but also the eighties as a later classic. For the younger ones, here is our friendly reminder:
Neneh Cherry, who is still active as a musician and released her current album BROKEN POLITICS in 2018, has recorded various versions and remixes of “Buffalo Stance” herself over the course of her career. Another new edition is now appearing: The Swedish pop singer Robyn has taken on “Buffalo Stance” together with Cherry. The musician friends received further support from producer Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) and, for a rap part, from the Swedish-American singer Mapei.

“I love that I could write an essay with all the things I could say about Robyn and I love that she leaves me speechless at the same time. Cherry recently received the NME Icon Award 2022. In 2020 a reissue of their debut RAW LIKE SUSHI was released. A new album full of features is to be released this year, Robyn’s “Buffalo Stance” is the first single from it.
