Eva Jinek demands one thing from her new employer AvroTros after the report about the misconduct of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk and other broadcasting colleagues. “It was a no-brainer for me.”
The investigation into the misconduct of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk and other broadcasting colleagues has caused quite a stir. Eva Jinek has also read the report and was quite shocked by it, says the much-discussed presenter in conversation with the A.D. “Especially because of the massiveness. It’s terrible. There is now a stain on the world I work in.”
No brainer
Eva will start after the summer with a new daily talk show in the evening of NPO 1, under the flag of AvroTros. Are there things she does differently after reading the report? “The report calls for longer contracts. That was a no-brainer for me. So AvroTros is working on multi-year contracts,” she says.
It was a demand from Eva. “I read in the report about short contracts… That they then had to travel, or even pay back money. You have to treat your people well. It starts with normal behavior in the workplace, but people must have security of existence in all facets.”
‘Sit on top!’
If things go wrong, Eva will never hide behind the fact that she knew nothing. She plays a serious role in this, she indicates. “Yes, this is necessary. I feel responsible. I cannot say: I did not know that the contracts were not in order. I’m on top of it.”
Eva’s return to the NPO has been much discussed because of the significant salary difference with RTL. “I understand that people think that. If you compare those amounts against each other, that is a big difference. It was also an insane amount of money that I earned. We were able to buy a house.”
Very expensive house
Eva got that very expensive house from her four years at RTL. Does she get annoyed when she is asked whether she has set up a salary structure? “I would ask about it too. So I understand that, but there isn’t one. I am employed by AvroTros. Again, that’s a generous salary and they’re the only ones paying me.”
She is also not on the payroll of producer MediaLane, she emphasizes. Shares then? “Also not. I am not a producer, not a co-owner, nothing.”
