Ecological Spinnova fiber has already produced products for famous brands such as Adidas, Marimekko and Arket. The latest addition is the domestic Halti.
Responsibility is a fashion megatrend. One of the biggest challenges in the industry is related to materials. Finland is home to many companies that have developed innovative, responsible materials.
One of the most famous is Spinnova, whose textile fiber is made from wood and waste streams such as leather, textile or food waste.
Spinnova is not the only source of pride for Finland as a developer of ecological and responsible materials. The domestic Infinited Fiber Company is also an enabler of the circular economy in the fashion world. Thanks to its unique technology, the company is able to turn cotton-containing textile waste into brand-new textile fiber, called Infinna.
The beauty market, on the other hand, is interested in domestic Sulapac, which cooperates with Chanel, for example, on cosmetic packaging.
During the last year, several products using Spinnova fiber came on sale to consumers. Famous brands such as Adidas, Marimekko, Jack & Jones and H&M Group’s Artek are included.
– The products in question use a mixture of Spinnova fiber and cotton, and many of our customers are trying to replace cotton, the production of which involves many challenges, says Spinnova’s communications manager Tiina Roine.
Now the domestic Halti has also started cooperation. CEO of Halti Aki Kuusilehto says that a timeless parka jacket suitable for everyday use was chosen as the first joint product.
– The starting points of my design were timelessness, technical functionality and respect for nature. With these criteria, we chose Spinnova fiber as the material of the jacket. The jacket lasts in changing weather and over time, it is repairable and its materials are recyclable, designer Hanna Koivula tells.
