The temperatures are falling, the first gingerbreads are in the supermarkets and Cher releases her Christmas single “DJ Play A Christmas Song”. And all of this in October – 80 days before the big festival. With the song, the iconic singer not only celebrates the Advent season, but above all her first own Christmas album “Christmas”, which will be released on October 20th.
“I never say this about my own records, but I’m really proud of these. “It’s one of the greatest highlights of my career,” reflects the singer, who released her debut album “All I Really Want to Do” in 1965, in a press release.
Among the 13 tracks on the record you can expect not only Christmas classics, but also four new compositions from songwriter Sara Hudson and her team. On the well-known songs, Cher is supported by a number of well-known personalities – including 80s star Cyndi Lauper, Christmas song interpreter Michael Bublé and rapper Tyga. The musician sings the song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” with Darlene Love, who recorded the song in 1963 with Phil Spector and the 17-year-old Cher as a background singer.
Stevie Wonder also appears on the record, accompanying the singer on the track “What Christmas Means To Me”. “Every time I hear that harmonica, I’m a teenager again. Recording this song with Stevie… it’s a personal dream come true for me,” Cher reminisces.
A deluxe edition of the album will also be released on November 3rd to mark the 25th anniversary of “Believe”. Cher expands the original record with 13 newly mastered remixes.
