‘This is very false’

André Rieu causes anger to Paul van Riessen, the editor-in-chief of Quote. He calls the world-famous violinist ‘out of tune’. “It’s a bit lame that he accuses us of that.”

He is the Wybren van Haga of classical music: André Rieu. According to the Quote A look at the land registry shows that, as a private individual, he is the rightful owner of no fewer than 78 objects, plus 14 objects that are owned by one of his BVs. “When a house comes up for sale in the area, Rieu’s hands are immediately itchy.”

‘Out of my mind!’

Although Quote bases itself on factual information from the land registry, André now accuses the magazine of lies. “All I can say is that ninety percent of that article… Do you see that thumb here? Yes. Completely made up! Also the tone and the numbers. It’s not right at all!” he says Show news.

What’s wrong then? “The numbers don’t add up at all. It’s just not true at all.”

The reporter: “How much?”

André: “Ohh… Ten… Tens. Yes. But yes, god, they like writing it that way. (Shrugs shoulders, ed.)”

Clutter work

Paul van Riessen, editor-in-chief of Quote, does not understand what he must have made up. “If André Rieu says that the messy work is ours, then I think he would be better off focusing on music than on the real estate business, because when we look in the Land Registry, we see those 78 objects behind his name.”

Plus those dozen business objects. “So the facts don’t lie, you would think. Yes, he appears to have a preference for stones and soil, because we find 78 objects in his own name in the Land Registry. Sometimes these are houses, sometimes apartments and sometimes plots of land, but all in all a considerable portfolio.”

Popularity

Why would André deny crystal-clear facts? Paul thinks he knows why. “I can imagine that if you depend on your popularity, you don’t want to make a big deal about how incredibly much money you earn from it. Last year it was seventeen million.”

He continues: “As far as I’m concerned, you don’t have to be so shy about that, but maybe in the eyes of the fans who have to save for a long time before they can afford such a ticket.”

Bit corny

Paul calls André on I’m also not saying that he is a worthless musician, so I suggest that we just respect each other and that he also respects that the facts we have uncovered are the facts that are correct.”

Shownieuws star Bart Ettekoven thinks that André Rieu is the lying party, and not the Quote. “Quote is usually well informed and they don’t just write anything down and the land registry doesn’t lie either.”
