For this reason, the General direction of traffic (DGT) will implement a system based on environmental labels to progressively reduce the access, circulation and parking of vehicles, as explained by the Barcelona City Council. The objective is improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Meaning
The new sign is round and, inside, a car appears expelling smoke from the exhaust pipe. According to the DGT, the signal reports “the entry prohibited to motor vehicles, except those that have the environmental label indicated by the local entity at the bottom of the sign“.
exceptions
The sign also includes a box with the exceptions which must delimit each locality. The labels designed by the DGT are: the zero emission label, the eco label and the ‘B’ badges Y ‘C’.
The zero emission label corresponds to battery electric vehicles (BEV), extended range electric vehicles (REEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) that have a minimum range of 40 kilometers or fuel cell vehicles.
The eco label it is for plug-in electric vehicles with a range of less than 40 kilometers and non-plug-in hybrids. It is also designed for vehicles powered by natural gas and natural gas (LNG) and those that use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
