The time has finally come for around 18,000 runners on Sunday, January 14: the half marathon in Egmond aan Zee. The date almost always creates harsh conditions every year. The route has even been adjusted for next Sunday due to the heavy rainfall recently, according to the organization. The adjusted route was announced today.
Because the groundwater in the dunes is high, it is necessary to adjust the route of the Egmond Half Marathon. The organization of the half marathon, LeChampionstates that this was done in consultation with PWN, Camping Bakkum, the municipalities and the province of North Holland.
Most important adjustment
The runners notice the adjustment after they leave the beach at Castricum. They do not immediately go into the dunes, but first along the Zeeweg. They then walk into the dunes via the Van Oldenborghweg. In order to reach the distance of 21.1 kilometers (half marathon), the participants cover extra kilometers on the way back in Egmond-Zuid. As always, the finish is on the Boulevard of Egmond aan Zee.
