A carnival scarf of no less than 1.11 kilometers long, that was the goal of the carnivalesque record attempt in Schorsbos. Carnival clubs from all over the village came together to make a garland of yellow, green and white scarves right through the center of Schijndel. It was tense for a while, but with the help of the Princes’ Club, the record was just achieved.
It is almost a tradition in Schorsbos, on the first day of carnival a playful record attempt is made. For example, a mega heart was previously made and there was the record attempt to blow bubbles.
Village pump with beer
So this Carnival Saturday it became a mega scarf. After an official part in which awards were handed out from Schijndelaren who are important for carnival and association life, a party erupted in the street. Under the watchful eye of Prince Toon d’n Urste, the scarves were knotted together.
All scarves together had to reach the village pump, and it would start to foam: then beer will come out of the pump for once, instead of water.
“I have no idea what is happening. I have to keep my tie here and I will wait for the rest”, laughs Dianne van Kaathoven. A little further on is Anton Hellings. “We are going to set a record.” He then continues singing: “Because you know it: it’s those yellow, green, white colors that make Schorsbos very special.”
Exciting
Meanwhile, Prince Toon walks past the hundreds of scarves with his court chapel. “It is of course a playful record attempt to go from one event to the next. I am sure it will work.” And former Prince Carlo van de Greef is also standing between the enormously long scarf. “This will be a world record,” he laughs. “This has never happened.”
However, not everyone is sure of that. And with the village pump in sight, the scarves are gone. With the help of the shawls of the prince, his adjutant and entourage (and a little bit of smuggling), the village pump is fetched. A spontaneous party starts in the center and the beer can be tapped.
“As a council of eleven, we tied the last meters of the scarf together. The notary will be on his way, it’s lucky. Schorsbos fantastic”, are the closing words of the prince.
