The cub is in good health and lives with his mother in the zoo, away from the curious
A pleasant surprise occurred recently at the Thomas Belt Zoo in Nicaragua, when a puma pregnant with two cubs gave birth to an albino cub, with completely white fur.
It is the first albino puma registered in the country that was born in captivity and one of only four specimens of albino pumas of which there is evidence in the worldaccording to several news agencies.
The management of the Thomas Belt Zoo, located in the town of Juigalpa, Chontales, reported that a puma cub had been born in its facilities “with the rare condition of albinism.” His fur is completely white and his eyes are red.
In addition, he reported that, on the recommendations of the veterinarian, access to the cubicle where it is located has been limited puma breeding is housed in order to guarantee animal welfare and provide the best conditions that breeding requires for its survival.
The professionals at the center assured that the puppy he is healthy and has good body condition. When the cats are three months old, the zoo plans to display them to the general public.
The event has caused great astonishment and happiness among the local population, who celebrate the biodiversity of their country, especially of species that are in danger of extinction.
“We are taking all the measures to be able to have him as healthy as possible together with his mother,” explained veterinarian Carlos Molina, from the Thomas Belt Zoo.
For now, zookeepers are avoiding contact with the small albino puma, which grows up with its mother in a cave installed in the fenced enclosure, and hope that within two months the cub will be able to receive veterinary treatment.
