Alexander Klöpping went completely out of his plug last night at Eva Jinek’s talk show table. The gadget god got very angry with Jan Slagter. “This is f*cking outdated!”
As the figurehead of Omroep MAX, Jan Slagter embraces the adage that everything used to be better. The ‘woke madness’ of today? He and his target group are completely annoyed by that. “When I look at what woke is now… You are no longer allowed to say certain things,” he grumbles at the talk show table of Eve Jinek.
Human milk
Some aspects of woke are good, says Jan. “About racism, totally agree. Sexual orientation, totally agree. But that I can no longer say: ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen’, but that it should be: ‘Good evening people’… That human milk is human milk and all that kind of nonsense…”
Alexander Klöpping is getting a bit tired of this Johan Derksen-like tune. He argues: “You can bring in those excesses and then say: ‘This is woke!’, but that is so uninteresting.”
Jan: “It is a small minority that wants to impose their will – they also do that in politics – and that creates a culture of fear.”
dominant people
Alexander thinks it’s about time that types like Jan listen a little more. “I think it’s time for dominant people like you, who have always had the power, to listen from time to time instead of just talking.”
Jan: “I’m listening, but I’m not going to participate in: ‘Good evening people’. I’m not participating in that. I don’t participate in: ‘Mother’s milk is human milk’. I don’t participate in all that nonsense. Not really. There are people who think it should. Watch out. The Dutch Railways no longer say: ‘Good morning ladies and gentlemen, the train to Amersfoort is three minutes late.’”
‘F*cking outdated!’
Alexander then starts to lose his temper. “Who cares? If that makes people happy, who really cares?”
Jan: “It doesn’t make me happy.”
Alexander: “Yes, but if there are people who feel addressed by that, what does it matter? That’s how people talked about Zwarte Piet five years ago and we’re all convinced of that now.”
Jan: “Yes, but I think that’s a different story.”
Alexander: “It feels like that f*cking outdated and boring all you say.”
Oops, this is pretty bordering on Alexander. In general, guests on television are expected to adhere to certain guidelines regarding language use to ensure that the content is suitable for a wide audience.
Eve intervenes
Eva Jinek immediately intervenes by taking back the lead. “Could it be, Jan, that society is always on the move and that change is always uncomfortable? An incredible amount has changed in your entire life.”
Alexander grumbles: “Do you also talk to those people and do you listen to them? Doesn’t that affect you?”
Jan finishes it nicely: “Yes, and when it comes to sexual orientation… Here is someone who has been a drag queen at RTL. I haven’t seen you do that yet!”
Final score: 1-1.
