Borussia Dortmund is currently without Julian Ryerson. The BVB full-back is apparently plagued by mysterious health problems.
As “Bild” reports, the 27-year-old Norwegian became dizzy in the dressing room during half-time of the Champions League game against FC Barcelona (2:3) and had to lie down. He had to be replaced and Yan Couto took over his role on the defensive wing. After the final whistle, Ryerson was driven to the hospital.
According to the report, it is still unclear what exactly is behind Ryerson’s complaints, and his appearance at the end of the year in the Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday (5.30 p.m.) is probably still questionable. Neurological and cardiological examinations are to be carried out.
Coach Nuri Sahin commented on Ryerson last week before the 1-1 draw against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. “He’s been checked and he’s being checked. After that we’ll see. If someone with circulatory problems is replaced, you have to be careful. We want to eliminate all risks.”
While Ryerson is shaky for the important Wolfsburg game, BVB can hope for a return from Waldemar Anton and Julian Brandt. Both have apparently recovered from their muscular problems to such an extent that they are already a starting point for the game. Niklas Süle (torn syndesmotic ligament), however, will be out for a few more months.
BVB under pressure against VfL Wolfsburg
Dortmund are under pressure in Wolfsburg. Eighth place in the table doesn’t match BVB’s high demands, and their chance of winning the DFB Cup is already gone.
“In principle, the season is comparable to the last: early exit from the cup, ups and downs in the Bundesliga, but good CL performances. And another point is also repeated: Dortmund are once again not the hunted, but the ones Hunter,” record national player Lothar Matthäus recently wrote in his “Sky” column.
