Leon Draisaitl continued his scoring streak in the NHL – but that didn’t change anything about the renewed defeat against defending champion Florida Panthers.

In the first duel since losing the Stanley Cup final series last season, the German ice hockey star lost 5:6 to the Edmonton Oilers. For the sixth time in a row, Draisaitl was directly involved in at least two goals, one he scored himself and one he prepared.

Draisaitl is number one in the NHL

The Oilers gave up a 4-2 lead and Carter Verhaeghe scored the decisive goal of the game in the 54th minute. In the summer, Edmonton initially made up a 3-0 deficit in the best of 7 series in the title decider, but then lost the final 1-2.

“We made some costly mistakes that shouldn’t have happened”said Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch about the lost lead. Edmonton suffered its first defeat after five consecutive wins. A small consolation for Draisaitl: With 23 goals, he is now the sole top scorer in the current NHL season.
