The favorites Frida Gold did not come because the singer Alina Süggeler was ill. Thanks to the outstanding public voting, the goth rock costume band Lord Of The Lost won with “Blood & Glitter”. The juries had previously preferred the cute street musician Will Church; the bang batch Ikke Hipgold, penalized by the jury with ten points, was voted second by the audience.

Barbara Schöneberger moderated the preliminary round in the most amusing manner, assisted by Florian Silbereisen, Ilse DeLange, Ricardo Simonetti and last year’s participant Malik Harris. The tableau featured polite singers (Anica Russo and Patty Gurdy), a songwriting pro (René Miller), an emo band from Passau (Lonely Spring) and a droll Korean (Trong). It wasn’t all that bad. Hamburg’s Lord Of The Lost not only have the most striking equipment, but possibly also the best song. Their name is reminiscent of the Finnish horror mask band Lordi, who won the competition 17 years ago.

Now we are used to a lot: Stefan Raab and Guildo Horn competed (successfully) for Germany; recently there were only third, penultimate and last places. Lord Of The Lost, who appear as the support act for Iron Maiden, are not boring and not mediocre, so to speak, they continue the hard rock of Måneskin from the year before last. Of course, a little Rammstein also resonates.

In this respect, Germany is competing with the best export article. There will be a few points from Austria, Turkey and Transylvania.
