Information about the show
SZA has the most nominations this year (9 categories), followed by Phoebe Bridgers, Serban Ghenea, Victoria Monét (with 7 each), followed by Jack Antonoff, Jon Batiste, boygenius, Brandy Clark, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift (6 each). The host of the evening is, for the fourth time, Trevor Noah. Live performances include Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Burna Boy, Luke Combs, Travis Scott, Joni Mitchell and Billy Joel. The venue is the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles (known as Staples Center until 2021).
The performances by Billy Joel and Joni Mitchell are particularly eagerly awaited. The last time Joel performed was with Tony Bennett at the awards show in 2002. This time the focus is on his new song: “Turn The Lights Back On”. On February 1st, just in time for the Grammys, the singer’s 17-year recording hiatus will end with the release of “Turn The Lights Back On.” A press release states that the song is a “classic Billy Joel song that embodies the characteristics of his signature sound and ushers in the next chapter of his story.” In the lyrics he asks listeners: “Did I wait too long… to turn the lights back on?” It is not yet known whether a new album will be released.
Joni Mitchell is also back – with a Grammy premiere. She will appear on the Grammy stage for the first time in her career at Sunday’s awards ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The singer-songwriter, who is nominated for the Best Folk Record award for her album “Joni Mitchell at Newport,” was honored with the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. However, Mitchell has never performed live at the Grammy Awards itself – until now.
