This is how you can turn off advertising on LG TVs

More and more smart TVs are switching sponsored banners in the current program or in various applications, including LG TVs. Read at TECHBOOK how to turn off annoying ads.

Anyone who has a smart TV from LG with the webOS operating system should be familiar with the problem: sponsor banners appear in various applications, for example when selecting the start page. This is particularly annoying on the LG TV if you have activated the full screen view, because the advertising takes up a lot of screen space here. TECHBOOK tried something out and found out how to turn off advertising on the LG TV.

This is how you can turn off advertising on LG TVs

To turn off ads, go to your LG TV settings. You can find this using the gear button on the remote control. First select “All settings” and from there “General” to get to the menu item “Additional settings”. The sub-item “Advertising” takes you to the advertising settings.

Now it’s almost done: You can now deactivate the “Home Promotion”. This replaces the annoying dynamic ad block with a static webOS banner, which I’m sure will be easier to get used to.

Also interesting: Smart TVs can do more and more – but be careful with your data!

Some advertising remains

Even if the popping up of sponsor blocks can be deactivated in the way presented – unfortunately the LG TV does not work entirely without advertising. In this way, users will continue to be informed about new films and services that they have not yet used. LG also reserves the right to refer to currently popular streaming content.

What makes smart TV advertising so attractive

More and more companies are investing in digital TV advertising. Because from a marketing perspective, it makes a lot of sense. In contrast to classic TV advertising, which in case of doubt reaches the whole country (and thus also viewers outside the intended target group), the wastage is drastically minimized with Smart TV advertising. It is aimed specifically at consumers who tend to have high incomes and are affluent and can also be customized, for example tailored to a desired catchment area. That’s why the manufacturers don’t make it easy for their customers to switch off advertising on their Smart TV like the LG TV.
