New record or just a new song? What is behind the title “OGWAUteaser1.mp4”?
Vampire Weekend shared a short, cryptic clip on their Instagram account on Tuesday (February 6th), which also appears to function as a teaser for new music from them.
Piano, spherical drums and the title “OGWAUteaser1.mp4”
The grainy mini-video shows footage of carnivals, pinball machines, space and highways. The images are accompanied by an instrumental piece with piano sounds and atmospheric-sounding drums. Above all, the accompanying caption “OGWAUteaser1.mp4” suggests that we can expect more new sounds from the indie band soon. It is still unclear when there will be a new track and an album.
LP 5 has been finished for a long time, right?
According to speculation, the snippet and the caption title are a reference to the first single from their fifth record, the completion of which Ezra Koenig, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio have already confirmed several times. Following the announcement of their limited vinyl live album FROG ON THE BASS DRUM VOL. 01. In June 2023, bassist Chris Baio announced in the accompanying newsletter entitled “The Quarterly Report”: “I would like to close this update with the most exciting news: LP 5 IS DONE.”
As drummer Chris Tomson explained in July 2023, the work is said to have been increasingly inspired by raga. “I feel like it might be our best album yet. Ten songs, no omissions,” the New Yorker concluded.
