It was at the beginning of May when manager Oliver Ruhnert (51) said on the subject of transfers: “We won’t do anything crazy.” A change from left-back Robin Gosens (28 / Inter Milan) to 1. FC Union sounds very crazy. But: The poker is on!

Now it’s about bringing the national player to Berlin. According to reports, Gosens can well imagine the change. Hurdle: Inter and Union have to agree first.

BZ explains the three conceivable models:

► Gosens (contract in Italy until 2026) is loaned out for a year, Inter pays most of the salary. The Iron Ones could certainly live well with this variant.

► The man from the Lower Rhine is loaned out for a year, Union secures a purchase option. Experience has shown that Italian clubs prefer the variant of compulsory purchase. That’s how it was a year ago with Leverkusen.

Inter would have been willing to loan Reservist Gosens for €2m. After that, the Milanese wanted to agree on a purchase obligation for 28 million euros. That’s roughly the amount Inter transferred to Bergamo. The deal fell through.

► Union buys Gosens directly. However, the rumored transfer fee of 15 to 20 million euros is very high. This means that the entry fee for the Champions League would be spent in one fell swoop – for a professional who will be 29 in July.

Even if Union wants to stretch financially: Gosens would have to take a drop in salary. Meanwhile, there are rumors from England about Gosens and Nottingham. It remains exciting!
