In a few weeks, the fight of the year will rise for boxing Germany in Wuppertal. On July 1st, Berlin’s Vincenzo Gualtieri (30) will be fighting for the middleweight world championship.
After a long time, this is not a World Cup in one of the many small world associations, but the IBF title fight.
Gualtieri boxes under the auspices of the world association for which Graciano Rocchigiani, Henry Maske, Axel Schulz and Sven Ottke, who unfortunately died far too early, boxed. Rocky was, among other things, IBF world champion in the super middleweight division.
At the beginning of his professional career, Gualtieri was even coached by Rocchigiani. To BZ he says: “I learned a lot from Rocky, he is unforgettable.”
How’s the preparation going for the title fight against the Brazilian Esquiva Falcao, who is undefeated in 30 fights? Gualtieri: “Up until the weekend we were in a high-altitude training camp, now the sparring is on Mallorca.
Matchmaker Hagen Doering: “Vincenzo has to call up 100 percent of his performance on July 1.”
