Austria’s national soccer coach Ralf Rangnick did not expect Julian Nagelsmann’s abrupt end as coach of FC Bayern Munich in this form.
“That came as a surprise at this point in time, even after the statements made by the management team in recent weeks,” said the former sports director and coach of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. From there, Nagelsmann switched to the German record champions in 2021 for a fee in the millions.
FC Bayern had confirmed the separation from the 35-year-old as well as Thomas Tuchel’s commitment as his successor.
After the 4-1 success of the ÖFB selection over Azerbaijan at the start of the European Championship qualification in Linz, Rangnick explained that he had not understood Leipzig’s approval for the move to Munich.
Rangnick did not want to comment on possible reasons for FC Bayern’s current move. “I’m not close enough to appreciate what really made the difference in the end,” said the 64-year-old.
