Presenter and food writer Vappu Pimiä actively shares her everyday life on social media channels, including Instagram. Some publications highlight, among other things, food and Pimiä’s cooking at the family’s cottage in Salo.

Pimiä tells Me Nais that she goes grocery shopping for the weekend with her family on Fridays.

– They cost around 200–250 euros. As far as I remember, the last invoice was 260 euros, Pimiä reveals.

The host says that he buys, for example, eggs, meat and vegetables directly from producers. He puts some of the products directly in the freezer for cold storage.

University of Turku produced a study in the summer of 2022, according to which the food costs of a family of four are 889 euros on average per month. In this case, the budget would be around 220 euros per week.

Dislikes and favorites

Pimiä says in the interview that nowadays he takes into account the amount of losses more and more. He also tells how he avoids food waste.

– Food should not be thrown in the trash. I bake the leftover potatoes the next day, and I throw the leftover buttermilk and milk, for example, into the bun dough. I get great pleasure when I can use the leftovers for something, she says in Me Nais.

In Me Nais, Pimi also opens up about the role of housework in life. She lists the vacuuming that her husband dislikes Teemu to take care.

– I’ll wash the toilets for me. I was a ship cleaner on the Viking Cinderella throughout high school and I have washed thousands of toilets, so I dare say that you can’t find a better toilet cleaner than me! Pimiä tells the magazine.

There is also a cleaner at the family’s home, but Pimi says she takes care of cleaning the toilets herself.
