This is how much Teemu Selänne has wasted on cars

Teemu Selänne has previously bought all the cars he liked. Today, he is more moderate in his purchasing decisions.

Even though Teemu Selänne has gotten to the edge of fast situations in the hockey rink, the real charm of speed has always been sought by the ex-hockey player from driving.

To be seen in Finland next spring Top Gear program is a dream come true for Selänte. Selänne can’t quite say how much money he has spent on cars or driving during his life, but he estimates “a couple of million euros”.

– I had 43 cars at my best, but they have actually decreased. Fortunately, I’ve grown up and at the moment I probably have less than 20 cars. The goal is still to drop it to less than ten, Selänne describes to Iltalehte on the set of Top Gear.

– Everything that moves has interested me since I was a child. I enjoy the charm of speed, driving and especially convertibles. There is a certain freedom when your hair is blowing in the wind, he adds.

On the home side, there has never been any news about the number of cars, just wondering.

– Sirpa has never said that there are too many cars. Just wondering and laughing that nothing is enough, Selänne laughs.

Top Gear Selänte’s very first car was also featured in the shooting of the program. The car in question is a 1961 red Lincoln convertible that he bought with his first paycheck. The car in question once cost FIM 80,000.

Environmental issues in mind

Selänne says that she used to be the person who bought everything she liked. Today, however, his way of thinking is different.

– I am grateful that he has been able to do this kind of thing, but maybe with age it has become such that maybe more emphasis is placed on quality than quantity.

In addition to convertibles, Selänne has always liked loud cars.

– That’s why V8 engines are my favourites, although they are certainly not very good these days due to emissions. But they are not driven much. When you drive, it’s a pleasure, says Selänne.

The Seläntie family has also talked about emissions and how climate change should be taken into account in driving. Selänne says that they also have electric cars.

– I think that all of us could think a little about how we could help in that sector as well. Those old cars that pollute the most are driven maybe ten times a year. I don’t think that’s a problem. However, the future should worry everyone.

A family full of drivers

Selänne describes himself as a “quick and cheerful” driver.

– However, I’m not a prankster. I have been able to drive rallies and use those hard drives to the track. I wish that for everyone else, Selänne laughs.

Selänne also wishes for safe driving kilometers for her family members. Backbones Veera-daughter just turned 16 and for this reason she is entitled to a driver’s license in the United States.

– Everyone in our family drives really well. Veera just turned 16 and now gets a driver’s license. He has been driving for half a year with a training permit and now he also drives a car in our family, it’s sweet. A driver’s license brings your own freedom and an independent lifestyle. You can leave by yourself, and you don’t have to take a ride everywhere.

Selänne admits that she also feels a little fear for her children in traffic.

– I try to emphasize to them that you have to be smart in traffic and you have to take care that anything can happen there. You can’t be stupid, you have to keep safety distances and make the right decisions, Selänne says seriously.

Selänte has a lot of experience in both Finnish and American traffic. Both have their merits.

– There are big traffic jams in California, so you have to plan very carefully when you leave and where you go. However, you get used to it. The traffic flows surprisingly well, considering how many cars there are. Traffic is admirably light there.

– In Finland, it is sometimes surprising how traffic jams can be managed with such a small number of cars. In Finnish traffic, it’s annoying that even the slowest drivers drive on the left side of the highway. They don’t know how to go into the right lane. However, there are many good drivers in Finland and things are fine.
