This is how it goes with our old stately town halls: the town hall of Peize

It is 25 years ago that Drenthe was reorganized municipally. Since January 1, 1998, our province has twelve municipalities, before that there were 34. New town halls were built, old town halls closed their doors for good. Many of those former ‘regulation and meeting places’ are still standing proudly.

In the section Find It Out! RTV Drenthe asked what happened to the old town halls, which have now been living a completely different life for over 25 years. The editors immediately started the search for the keys. In the coming summer weeks, therefore, attention will be paid to former town halls in our province in this section.

The fact that Drenthe got municipalities in 1811 comes as no surprise. This is also the case with the municipality of Peize, which was merged into the municipality of Noordenveld in 1998. With perhaps the most stately old town hall in Drenthe. Many people know that stately building on the Raadhuisstraat, especially in Peize. What is in that building now and where was the municipality housed before?

The old town hall of Peize is on, how could it be otherwise, the Raadhuisstraat. It has been the only official town hall of Peize and was built in the early 20th century. In 1918 the building was ready for use.
