This is how expensive Xabi Alonso could be

The Munich team is still looking for a new coach for the coming season. Xabi Alonso is considered a preferred candidate. A new report now says: The Spaniard could be very expensive for Bayern.

Thomas Tuchel will leave FC Bayern early after the current season, something the star coach and the Munich club management agreed on a few weeks ago. While the 50-year-old will look after the German record champions until the end of this season, it is still unclear who will take a seat on the club’s bench afterwards.

A top candidate: Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard has shaped Bayer Leverkusen into an absolute top team and championship candidate; the Werkself are currently eight points ahead of Bayern as Bundesliga leaders. And: Alonso also has a Bayern past and played on the Isar from 2014 to 2017.

Reports about the club’s chances with the 42-year-old vary – both a stay in Leverkusen and a move to Liverpool FC as Jürgen Klopp’s successor also seem possible, but the rumor about a move to Bayern is just as persistent. And that could be really expensive.

Alonso has no release clause for 2024

Because “Sky” now reports: The new Bayern sports director Max Eberl would have to dig deep into his pockets to be able to guide Alonso to Munich: For a change this summer, it should be between 15 and 25 million euros, which the Säbener Straße would have to be transferred to the Rhineland. Because: Alonso, whose contract in Leverkusen runs until 2026, has no exit clause for 2024 – but a verbal assurance that he can leave Bayer if a suitable offer is made.

In 2025, however, according to the report, there will be “only” 15 million – thanks to a fixed exit clause that would then come into effect.

The only thing that seems clear at the moment is that Alonso will concentrate fully on Bayer Leverkusen at least until the end of this season – in order to dethrone FC Bayern and celebrate the greatest success in the Leverkusen club’s history.
