Friends and colleagues of Matthew Perry react to the unexpected death of the “Friends” star on social networks.
Colleagues and friends mourn Matthew Perry. The American actor, who became a global star as Chandler Bing in the sitcom “Friends,” died on October 28, 2023 at the age of 54.
American actress Selma Blair posted a photo with Perry on her social networks and wrote: “My oldest friend. We all loved Matthew Perry, and I especially loved him. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I’m broken. Heartbroken. Sweet dreams, Matty. Sweet Dreams.”
Mira Sorvino is also grieving. “Oh no!!! Matthew Perry! You sweet, troubled soul!! May you find peace and happiness in heaven and make everyone laugh with your unique wit!!!,” she wrote, adding several broken heart emojis.
Maggie Wheeler, who occasionally appeared as his girlfriend Janice in “Friends,” published a post on Instagram.
“What a loss. The world will miss you, Mathew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your all-too-short life will live on. I feel so blessed by every creative moment we shared.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also paid tribute to his former classmate Perry. “The death of Matthew Perry is shocking and sad. I will never forget the schoolyard games we played, and I know people around the world will never forget the joy he brought them. Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and we will miss you.”
Oscar winner Octavia Spencer writes: “I am incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Matthew Perry today. His gift to the world will be remembered forever. Love to Matthew’s family, friends, co-stars and millions of fans around the world.”
Studios and broadcasters also released statements
The US broadcaster NBC, which was broadcasting Friends at the time, said in a statement: “We are incredibly sad about the untimely death of Matthew Perry. He has brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his perfect comedic timing and sharp mind. His legacy will live on for countless generations.”
Warner Bros. Television Group, which produced “Friends,” said: “We are devastated by the death of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day and we send our love to his family, loved ones and all of his loyal fans.”
