Latvia took the first victory in the country’s history in the under-20 World Cup. It came jubilantly from Canada.
Latvian hero goalkeeper Linards Feldbergs led his team to a sensational victory over Canada. PDO
Latvia beat host Canada in the first group stage of the World Youth Championship the night before Saturday after a hard-fought game with a score of 3-2.
It is a significant sensation, because before Friday, Latvia had not won a single match in its entire history at the men’s U20 World Championship level.
As morning dawns in Canada, there has naturally been a strong reaction to the tuning. The sports channel Sportsnet was sudden.
– Three words we didn’t think we’d hear: Latvia beat Canada. Canada simply wasn’t good enough in the Latvia game, the publication writes.
– Latvia’s victory shows how close the rest of the hockey world has gotten to Canada, Sportsnet continued.
The result is considered one of the biggest disappointments in the history of the U20 tournament in the motherland of hockey. Last year, Canada won the same game 10-0.
According to Sportsnet, little Latvia fought, had enough skill, and the team did not lose its optimism in the game.
Canada’s head coach Dave Cameron stated that if the teams played ten matches, Canada would win nine of them.
TSN admired the goalkeeper
Latvia’s head coach has also played in Finland at one time Artis Abols.
Another big sports channel in Canada, TSN, took the stubborn Latvian goalkeeper Linards Feldbergswho made 54 saves.
– Excellent is not a strong enough word to describe the Latvian goalkeeper, said the channel’s expert and former NHL player Mike Johnson.
His pair of narrators Gord Miller also cheered the only winner of the tough competition Eriks Mateikoa.
Canada is looking for its 20th championship in the under-20 world championships. The country does not always progress to the championship in a straight parade.
