This is how Brabant chooses: voters go for green or local

The votes have been counted, Brabant is preparing for a final result. The biggest gains come from the local parties and GroenLinks is also very successful. However, a lot fewer people from Brabant went to the polls than four years ago: just under 47 percent.

That is a decrease of three percent. Roosendaal has the lowest turnout in Brabant, according to preliminary figures: 39.7 percent.

Local parties triumph
Once again, local parties emerged as the winner. In Brabant they receive 43.2% of the votes, which is almost seven percent more than four years ago. The Brabant map (below this article) clearly shows that local has the upper hand.

In the municipalities of Hilvarenbeek, Reusel-De Mierden and Eersel the locals are very firmly in the saddle:

  • HOI Works received 51.5 percent of all votes in Hilvarenbeek.
  • Reusel-De Mierden cooperation received 50.4 percent of the votes in that municipality.
  • Eersel Samen Anders came out on top in Eersel with 45.5 percent.

National parties
The VVD takes 13.1 percent of the vote in Brabant. The CDA follows with 12.7 percent. Both parties have suffered losses in Brabant, according to the provisional result.

In 2018 CDA still had a majority in thirteen Brabant municipalities, now it is still the largest in six municipalities: Altena, Bergeijk, Asten, Gemert-Bakel, Meierijstad and Bernheze.

D66 and GroenLinks actually made a profit Brabant-wide. The SP is no longer the largest in Oss, the Local Party for the Community emerged as the largest.

Political landslide
A real political landslide is taking place in Tilburg. GroenLinks is gaining momentum there, gaining four more seats and is now by far the largest party with 10 seats. D66 loses a bit, but is the second game.

GroenLinks is also the largest in Helmond, with seven seats. The local party Helder Helmond is the big winner with two seats.

In Eindhoven, GroenLinks is also a big deal, with nine seats it is the largest. The party has exchanged pennies there with the VVD, which narrowly won against GroenLinks in 2018.

VVD no longer the largest in Den Bosch
In Den Bosch, the VVD has to make way for D66. The party retains five seats, but D66 gains an additional seat, making it the largest party in Den Bosch. The VVD also loses its majority in Veldhoven and Eindhoven.

On the map of Brabant, Breda, Best and Halderberge are still VVD blue. In Breda the VVD loses one seat, CDA loses 2 seats and D66 wins one. Forum for Democracy is a newcomer here with one seat, the same goes for the Party for the Animals with two seats and the List Pim Fortuyn Breda with one seat.

National newcomers
Forum for Democracy participated for the first time in Brabant, in eight municipalities. In Den Bosch, participation remains unrewarded. FvD does win a seat in this municipality:

  • Roosendaal
  • Oss
  • Breda
  • Helmond
  • Meijerijstad
  • Tilburg
  • Eindhoven

According to the provisional figures, the Party for the Animals is allowed to work for the first time in four Brabant cities. They are taking seats in Breda, Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Tilburg.

Volt may be on the council in Den Bosch and Eindhoven.
