Despite the rainy weather, royal fans were drawn to the coronation ceremony in the Gardens of the World yesterday. Union Jack flags cheered on in the cottage in the English garden. Others made themselves British in front of the home television.
In English weather, tea in fine china crockery and a living room atmosphere, royal fans watched the coronation of King Charles at the public viewing in the Gardens of the World. There were day tickets for the winners of the coronation bingo.
“It’s something special, and since I don’t have a television at home, I came here today,” says Eva Schuler (19) from Steglitz. For her and her black fascinator à la Duchess Kate, there was an annual ticket at the hat contest for the most beautiful headgear. The title of the largest hat went to twelve-year-old Zori M. from Wilhelmstadt.
Other Charles fans have made themselves royal at home. With ginger beer, baked beans and scones, Mariendorf native Simone Büch (54) watched the ceremony from the couch. “The coronation was great. It’s a little like everyone has fallen out of time,” she says.
The coronation celebrations were also followed attentively in the Sassoon hairdressing salon (Schlueterstr. 38). Because the boss Catrill Peters (57) is English. According to the occasion, receptionist Teja Schumacher (63) wore a black sequined jacket with a white ruffled shirt.
“On special occasions we lower the big screen.” They drank tea.
