This is how Barcelona councilors will sit in the Collboni era

Barcelona will hold the first ordinary plenary session of the mandate this Tuesday, although it is extraordinary. Said so that it is understood: for now, of the 2023-2027 mandate, only the investiture plenary session has been held, which was very eventful and which, as always happens in this case, was held in the Saló de Cent.

now comes the first regular plenary session that is to say, the first day-to-day plenary session of the mandate, although it is not one of the usual ones at the end of the month. The one that will take place in a few hours it will be an extraordinary plenary sessionsummoned for Designate the representatives of the Barcelona City Council in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB). The stage itself is the one that hosts the plenary sessions that are not exceptional, the Hall Carlos Pi i Sunyer.

And the interest of the meeting, of the plenary council this Tuesday, which will be quick and concise -no interventions from the groups are expected-, is to see the 41 councilors of the new period and where they sit.

In view of the image that the consistory foresees, the first thing that is appreciated is that the mayor, Jaume Collboni, will preside over the plenary sessions, as Ada Colau did from 2015 until the end of the previous term. From 2011 to 2015, Xavier Trias, then mayor, delegated that function to the councilor Joan Puigdollers.

The seats

Collboni will have on his left the third deputy mayor, albert batlleand to his right the second deputy mayor, Maria Eugenia Gay. Looking from the mayor’s position, in the left half of the hemicycle of the Carles Pi i Sunyer room will be the groups of the PSC, ERC and Barcelona en Comú.

The councilors closest to the mayor’s table will be the Socialists and the furthest away, the Comuns. Between both groups sit the Republicans. If the case comes that Barcelona en Comú enters the Collboni government, ERC will be in the middle, and not just metaphorically: they would be the desired third partner. In any case, the positions can be modified during the mandate.

In the first row on that left side they will be seated, starting with the position that is closest to the mayor to the furthest away, the first deputy mayor, Laia Bonet; the fourth deputy mayor, Jordi Valls. Next, the leader of the ERC ranks, Ernest Maragall, and his number two, Elisenda Alamanythe one who was number two on the Comuns list, Jordi Martí, and the former mayor Colau, as the last in line.

In the first row of this right part, and also starting with the square closest to Collboni, will sit the winner of the municipal elections, Xavier Triasthe councilor of his group Jordi Martí Galbis (seen as his possible successor at the head of the group shortly), Neus Muntewho was number two on the Junts list, followed by the president of the PP group, Daniel Sirera, and whoever was his second in the candidacy, Juan Milian. The last place in that first row is for the head of the Vox group, Polished Gold Gonzalo.
